Now until the end of February you'll probably be diving into some boxes of Thin Mints or Samoas. But if you want to buy a box from one Texas troop, you'll have to take the plunge.

"We are Girl Scout divers," said Eleanor from Girl Scout Scuba Troop 40348. "We sell cookies like normal," said Eleanor. "We have our booth and take the money but this is where it differs. We have people fill out an order form on waterproof paper."

A Girl Scout Troop from Austin, Texas made waves last year when they opened the first underwater cookie booth at the bottom of a pool at Dive World Austin. The troop of Girl Scout divers used their earnings for trip to the Florida Keys on order to volunteer at a coral restoration facility.

As divers submerged in Lake Travis Sunday for the annual lake cleanup, among them was a group of Girl Scouts. Troop 40348, which now boasts eleven members, holds the title of being the first scuba Girl Scout troop.

You won't find Girl Scouts Troop 40348 behind tables stacked high with delicious cookies outside a local grocery store. Instead, as the nation's first Scuba Troop, the girls conduct their cookie sales at the bottom of a swimming pool. Choose pickup — which involves putting on your own scuba gear and diving below — or delivery, where the girls send the cookies to the surface.

There's a Girl Scout scuba diving troop in Central Texas, and they're the only ones in the nation.

When the troop had a bunch of boxes of helping hero cookies, they decided to donate them to the Travis County Sheriff's Office dive team

Girl Scouts of America

For the girls in Troop 40348 from Girl Scouts of Central Texas, Girl Scouting is about bringing all their passions together in one place: underwater! The multi-level group (with 11 girls ranging in age from 12 to 16 years old) is filled with avid scuba divers, environmentalists, and adventurers.

On Saturday, a group of Girl Scouts will be selling Girl Scout cookies underwater. How is that possible? Troop 40348 is believed to be the first and only scuba Girl Scout troop in the country. The girls do everything a regular Girl Scout troop does — sing songs, earn badges, form friendship circles, do community service — but they do it underwater.

Scuba and H20 Adventures

Last year, we at Scuba H20 Adventures Magazine covered Girl Scout Scuba Troop 40348 of Central Texas; the worlds first scuba diving girl scout troop.

Austin Net-Zero Hero

As part of the Girl Scout Law, every scout agrees to “use resources wisely” and “make the world a better place.” For Troop 40348, the scouts live these practices above and below the waves. Girl Scout Troop 40348 is the first Girl Scout scuba troop in the country, and we’re proud to introduce them as our newest Net-Zero Heroes.

Outside of cookie sales season, the Scuba Scouts are in the depths of Lake Travis or Spring Lake, examining the impacts of sunscreen and zebra mussels on the local environment.
